Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has arrived in Warsaw alongside the Defence Secretary, Gavin Williamson, to strengthen defence, security and cyber ties with Poland.
The two representatives will join their counterparts Jacek Czaputowicz and Mariusz Błaszczak in Helenow, just outside Warsaw. The visit is the latest in a series of discussions that have seen UK-Poland relations go from strength-to-strength.
Up for debate, joint methods of defence against cyber attacks and other such threats with a view to sending a clear and consistent message that these acts will no longer be tolerated. Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear-related risks and our resilience to them are also on the agenda, alongside preparation for the signing of the UK-Poland Defence Action Plan which will see collaboration across a range of military arenas.
Finally, the formation of a strategic communications network to support independent media in Eastern Europe will be considered in order to ensure a wider array of voices and counter disinformation.
“The UK and Poland are close friends and allies on a range of issues, including security, foreign policy, trade, and culture,” said Johnson. “This meeting will help to solidify even further a relationship that is growing from strength to strength.
“Both countries take seriously the threats posed to independent media, to cyberspace, and to our collective security. That’s why we will today agree to build on our co-operation in these areas, to counter together hostile threats to our two countries.”
Williamson added: “Poland and the UK face the same intensifying threats to our security, prosperity and way of life. Our two countries are important European and NATO allies – both committed to playing a leading role to keep our nations and continental Europe safe. As we implement the UK-Poland defence treaty our historic partnership grows ever closer to meet the evolving and complex threats that we share.”
