PROVISION OF A REVIEW OF ACTIVITY AGAINST THE CLIMATEWISE PRINCIPLES FOR 2018/19
Contract type: Service contract
Contracting authority: University of Cambridge. Web: (Amy Nicholass), CB2 1TN.
Object of the contract
ClimateWise is a growing global network of almost 30 leading insurers, reinsurers, brokers and industry service providers with a shared commitment to reduce the impact of climate change on both society and the insurance industry. It is a voluntary initiative, driven by its members and facilitated by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).
A core activity of membership is the annual auditing of members integration of The ClimateWise Principles across their business activities. The ClimateWise Principles include leading on climate risk analysis and climate-resilient investment, raising customers’ climate awareness, and reducing their own carbon footprint.
As ClimateWise expands its global membership and leverages the outputs of The ClimateWise Principles, it is becoming an increasingly powerful leadership voice for the global insurance sector on climate change.
A particular development, with significance for The ClimateWise Principles, was the recent launch of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Analysis of the two reporting mechanisms have found that there is significant overlap between the two. This suggests that The ClimateWise Principles can be modified to become the reporting mechanism helping the insurance industry to meet its TCFD disclosure requirements. This reflects a strategic ambition of ClimateWise for the next reporting period.
