Summary: The Ministry of Defence is embarking on the largest recruitment of buyers in its history, aiming to bring in up to 180 staff in total.
The campaign will cover almost every level of seniority. The majority of the roles are within the MOD’s purchasing arm Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), which has an annual spend of around £15 billion, with further roles expected in the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
DE&S is responsible for the purchasing of military supplies and equipment to support operations around the world, including the current campaign in Afghanistan. The DIO, which has an annual spend of around £3 billion, is responsible for the upkeep of the UK’s second largest land estate.
The recruitment drive will take place over the next 12 months and will aim to bring in personnel from both the public and private sectors. The roles will be based at a range of MOD offices, including Abbey Wood in Bristol, Andover in Hampshire, and RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire.
The MOD internal personnel recruitment also aligns with the Army’s own recruitment drive, Step Up, which aims to bring 10,000 new recruits into the army in the next year.
Les Mosco, Commercial Director at the MOD, said: “This is the most complex and challenging procurement environment I have ever seen. For those serious about being professional and working to make a difference, this is as good as it gets.”
