DVD provides an ideal forum for Army staff and DE&S teams to engage with defence industry representatives to develop ideas and identify innovation to meet the challenges of future military demands in the Land domain. DVD remains an important event enabling this coordinated engagement.
What is the focus of this year’s DVD?
The theme for DVD2016 is the development, modernisation and sustainment of Army capability in the context of Divisional Warfare as articulated under the Army 2020 review (although this concept is being refined with conclusions expected in the summer).
What makes it different from previous years?
DVD2016 will focus on the Army’s return to a Contingent Operational footing and the emerging concept and requirements of the future Land Strike capability. DVD2016 will be organised around the mutually supportive sub-themes of Ready Forces, Strike and Reducing Logistic Need to address the challenges of equipping and supporting Forces at readiness for Contingent Operations.
What should those attending expect to see?
Visitors will experience an extensive DVD programme over the event which takes place over 7-8 September 2016. They will have the opportunity to interact with defence industry exhibitors, meet with DE&S and Army HQ staff, and engage with representatives from Field Army Units and their senior commanders.
The backbone of the event will be the wide range of equipment and support service exhibits from industry and the military. These will be coordinated to align with the sub-themes (Ready Forces, Strike and Reducing Logistic Need), with defence industry exhibitors sited within zones dedicated to these sub-themes. This will more clearly define the visitor experience, enabling a more structured and logical path through the exhibition stands In addition to these display stands, there will be formal opportunities for visitors to meet the capability development staff, delivery teams and Field Army users in organised forums.
Major General Mark Gaunt, Army Director Support based at Army Headquarters, said: “DVD is a high-profile biennial event in the defence calendar which offers much value to the MOD-industry partnership, evidenced by its history and its relevance during the recent period of continuous operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“Accordingly, this year’s DVD event will be the first since the redeployment from Helmand, Afghanistan, in late 2014, and is therefore a key opportunity to look forward as the Army returns to a Contingent Operational posture. I look forward to seeing what industry will showcase along the Army’s key themes of Ready Forces, Reducing Logistic Need and developing the Strike Capability in a Divisional Warfighting context, as well as the opportunity to view innovative products and services.
“I have attended many times, and continue to find the close interaction between exhibitors and defence personnel to be extremely beneficial. DVD’s enduring appeal and unique ‘hands-on’ opportunity, along with the fact that it continues to attract senior leaders from across the defence spectrum, are testament to its value. I am looking forward to it again this year.”
