The Defence Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) is inviting expressions of interest from companies interested in receiving an Invitation to Tender in respect of the proposed sale for the sole purpose of recycling of the former RFA Ships Gold Rover A271 and Black Rover A273.
Such a sale would only be permitted with companies who are able to demonstrate their capability and compliance and who have appropriate facilities within EU or OECD countries, in accordance with the UK Ship Recycling Strategy 2007.
Expressions of Interest from companies who do not have appropriate facilities within EU or OECD countries will not be accepted.
The vessels are currently moored at HM Naval Base Portsmouth and will be offered for sale from there. Viewing of the vessels will take place in late 2017.
The Invitation to Tender will include full details of all essential requirements, including dates for viewing, Terms and Conditions of Contract, General Particulars and applicable Inventory of Hazardous Material (IHM) documents.
Any companies wishing to submit expressions of interest must email DESLCSLS-DSA-Commercial@mod.uk and desdsa-mst2a@mod.uk no later than 17.00 (GMT) Monday 16 October 2017.
Gold Rover A271 (length 140.6m, beam 19.2m) formally a Small Fleet Support Tanker, was built by Swan Hunter of Wallsend UK; she was launched March 1973 and commissioned March 1974, and ceased operational service May 2017.
Black Rover A273 (length 140.6m, beam 19.2m) formally a Small Fleet Support Tanker, was built by Swan Hunter of Wallsend UK; she was launched October 1973 and commissioned August 1974, and ceased operational service March 2017.
