The Ministry of Defence teams up with TechVets to protect the nation from cyber threats

With fake news now a global concern and reports of cyber attacks becoming a daily feature on our feeds, it is unsurprising that the MOD is taking further steps to protect the nation against cyber threats.

The latest news is that the Ministry of Defence has teamed up with start-up TechVets to introduce a training scheme that well helps veterans to become “cyber warriors”.

The new cyber security agreement

In August, Minister for Defence People and Veterans Tobias Ellwood signed an agreement with start-up TechVets at the Ministry of Defence’s Headquarters in London. The collaboration with the not-for-profit organiation aims to help veterans gain employment in the cyber security and technology sector.

The Government has released a statement acknowledging that the “technology and cyber security sector is rapidly growing”. The Minister for Defence People and Veterans, Tobias Ellwood, has said:

“Veterans have unique skills and experiences, gained from their time in the armed forces, which means they contribute a lot to society. It’s fantastic that TechVets will provide opportunities for veterans to apply their considerable talents to the cyber security field, which is playing an increasingly vital role in keeping this country safe.”

TechVets has joined over 2,000 organisations from across the country that are committed to supporting current and ex-Forces personnel, ensuring that they and their families have equal opportunities.
