What’s going on at DPRTE?

“DPRTE 2018 is all about opportunity”

The DCI team will be attending the Defence Procurement, Research, Technology and Exportability (DPRTE) exhibition at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on 27 March 2018.

The exhibition, which aims to help businesses learn how they can work with the MOD and capitalise on the Government’s target of ensuring that 25% of defence procurement spending goes to SMEs by 2020, covers all aspects of the defence industry.

Exhibitors include BAE Systems and the UK Defence Solutions Centre and on the day there will be a live Keynote Arena and over 40 training sessions across five Knowledge Transfer Zones.

DPRTE 2018

Former Commercial Director of the Ministry of Defence and the Chair of DPRTE, Les Mosco, has stressed that there will be opportunities for small businesses from all sectors wanting to benefit from defence sector:

“With an annual spend of about £19 billion a year, encompassing almost all types of goods and services, the diverse nature of Wales’ business community means there are real opportunities for cyber security companies, developers of innovative technology platforms, pioneers in healthcare, advanced manufacturing and engineering, and suppliers of everyday goods.”

The DPRTE event is particularly helpful for defence suppliers that want to build relationships with buyers. You can see which exhibitors will be at the event and where they will be using the DPRTE floorplan.

What’s new?

There are several new additions at this year’s DPRTE event. Among them, the Defence Procurement Pavilion will provide visitors with the unique opportunity to engage directly with key MOD procurement organisations. As well as networking and relationship building opportunities, the Pavilion offers the chance to share and explore the latest ideas and best practice.

Organisations participating in the Defence Procurement Pavilion 2018 include:

  • Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S)
  • Information Systems and Services (ISS)
  • Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO)
  • Front Line Commands (Royal Navy, Army, RAF)

Cyber security

Cyber attacks such as Petya and WannaCry in 2017 displayed how damaging cyber threats can be.

This year the event has a strong focus on cyber security,  and will include a Cyber Essentials Engagement Zone.

Delegates who choose to attend this zone can gain a deeper insight into the benefits of Cyber Essentials accreditation.

US Department of Defense at DPRTE

This year representatives from the US Department of Defense (DoD) will be joining exhibitors and delegates at the DPRTE. The DoD team will be on hand offering advice to defence suppliers that would like to access the wealth of opportunities available within the world’s largest defence procurement marketplace.

In addition, the “Doing Business with the United States Department of Defense” seminar will be held in the Export and Business Growth Zone at 1pm.
