Our last extract from this informative publication is from Paul Everitt, CEO of ADS Group.
The UK’s defence industry and the Government have moved into a new era of partnership and collaboration, marked by a more informed understanding of the challenges facing both and a greater appreciation of the way industry supports national security as well as prosperity.
Export growth remains a key measure of industrial success and against the backdrop of constrained international defence budgets this presents significant challenge – a fact borne out by figures published recently by the Government which showed a drop in defence exports from £8.5 billion in 2014 to £7.7 billion in 2015. For UK companies, technology is the key differentiator; international customers are looking for leading-edge products and services that deliver military advantage. Government support for defence exports is essential if UK industry is to succeed in highly competitive international markets.
Exports are now a core task for the MOD and industry is working closely with the Department to ensure that exportability is factored into future procurement decisions. All of which feeds directly into the wider prosperity agenda, supporting jobs and skills by encouraging industrial growth.
This is an important and exciting time to be part of the UK defence industry. The full implementation of the SDSR, the renewed focus on industrial strategy and the work of the DGP will make a very positive contribution to our national security and the high-value jobs necessary to deliver prosperity and a country that works for everyone.”
The Essential MOD Guide to Defence Procurement 2017 will help buyers and suppliers navigate through the many changes and opportunities that will present themselves not just in 2017, but also beyond that time.
