At the end of 2018 facilities management suppliers were invited to bid for places on a new defence framework.
Suppliers for this framework have now been announced, and the UK Government has released a statement praising the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s (DIO) Future Defence Infrastructure Services (FDIS) for this milestone.
How much is DIO spending on infrastructure services?
In April 2019 DIO’s Commercial Director Jacqui Rock revealed that “DIO spends around £3 billion every year buying infrastructure services for our Armed Forces, both in the UK and overseas”.
She said that the new defence contracts will “form a significant part of this and will provide improved value for money for the taxpayer. They will also allow us access to a wider supply base including both large multinational companies and small and medium enterprises.”
FDIS contracts
The new Future Defence Infrastructure Services contracts that are being procured as part of the Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) Workplace Services (FM Marketplace) framework will cover several defence estate requirements.
Each contract will be seven years in length; DIO will have the option to extend up to a further three years, depending on performance and other considerations.
Sam Ulyatt, CCS’s Buildings Strategic Commercial Director, said: “CCS has engaged extensively to design a framework structure which meets the needs of customers and incorporates social value. Our public sector contract has also been simplified to aid procurement for customers and suppliers alike.”
