Radical new technology which aims to find a safe and cost-effective way of detecting and detonating landmines has been unveiled.
Designed by Massoud Hassani, the Mine Kafon is powered by wind and each ball can clear up to four landmines. The design is made from wood and plastic, and uses GPS to track which sections of land have already been cleared, making the solution one of the cheapest in the fight against landmines.
Landmines continue to be a major cause for concern around the world. Mr Hassani said: “There are 30 million land mines in Afghanistan and 26 million people, so that’s more mines than people.”
